What you need to know about careers in Search Engine Optimization
There are many SEO jobs available these days, as the world as one turns to online trading more readily. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the name given to the process of generating traffic through the proactive structuring and content setting of a website. As the name defines perfectly, it is the process to glam a site up to attract the attention of search engines – to optimize the site for them.
This is a growing field of industry, and has been bucking the trend for a number of years. The reasons are clear, and not only limited to the fact that we, as the great consumer, are more inclined to spend a few hours on the net than in front of the TV these days.
A major reason for the rise in the importance of SEO jobs is clear; the financial return for business is huge compared to the amount invested. However, though it is important, it is very easy to get wrong. As such, it is about more than just writing attractive content and adding some links. After all, there may well be an award winning introduction on a site, but it is as good as nothing if the search engines can’t pick up on its relevance.
Underpinning everything therefore is keyword research, development and application. Recent research shows that fewer than 35% of search engine users will get past the first page of results before clicking on a link. Unsurprisingly, the number of people willing to click on to successive pages drops off quickly. As if further proof were needed, the same research shows that 40% of net surfers will click on the number one, non advertised, result returned by the search engine.
This is proof positive therefore of the need for SEO professionals, in order that a site can be optimized and both content and structure designed to fit into what consumers are looking for. Of course, the bigger the company the bigger the budget, but this doesn’t always mean the best results. It is a creative role, which requires no small amount of lateral thinking. It’s all about talent really.
Though many other traffic streams exist to attract visitors online, targeting content is the most effective, most cost effective and most reliable. Better than this, repeat visitors are readily earned, through updating content regularly; this alone can often cover for any short fall in search engine popularity. There are a wide range of different SEO jobs of course, which range from entry level, through to specialists and up to director level – where applied strategy is filtered down.
If you think you have the talent, why not have a look at the SEO jobs that we have advertised here at searchengineoptimizationcouk, to see if you come up to scratch to join our winning team. With a wide range of clients, we’re always on the look out for those that can add an extra ounce of SEO knowledge to our team, or those who are willing to learn, and add to our performance.
